  • Description

The President of the Spanish Cortes (parliament) Senor Fernandez Miranda has been jostled by an angry crowd of right-wingers in the capital Madrid today (20 December).

SYNOPSIS: Right-wing demonstrators were waiting as the congregation left a church in Madrid after a memorial mass marking the third anniversary of the assassination of Admiral Carrero Blanco, a former Prime Minister. The crowd greeted General Iniesta Cano warmly but when Senor Miranda appeared the demonstrators tried to mob him.

Senor Miranda had to be rescued by armed police. The crowd accused him of being a traitor of General France. This follows the successful referendum concerning changes to the Spanish constitution, moving it closer to a democracy. General Cano joined police in trying to pacify the angry right-wingers. Visnews cameraman Mike gore was punched and prodded by umbrellas wielded by the demonstrators as he filmed them. His microphone was broken as the demonstrators tried to seize his camera.

General Cano pushed through the crowds with Senor Miranda, escorted by police.
