Background: Visnews filmed April 5 a mass meeting in New Delhi where prominent political personalities in India protested against the current events in Tibet. On April 4 Visnews filmed a former Tibetan Prime Minister Mr. Lukhingwa departing for Kalimpong to arrange a grand welcome for the Dakai Lama.
Among those who took part in the meeting, which was presided over by Mr. Acharya Kriplani, leading member of the biggest Socialist
Party in India - the "People's Socialist Party", were Mr. Asoka Mehta, another prominent P.S.P. Member; Congress members Mr. U.N. Dhebar and Mrs. Savitri Nigam and the leaders of the Jan Sangh and other Socialist Parties. The Indian Communist Party did not take part.
Amongst cries of "Shame" a Jan Sangh leader condemned the Chinese action in Tibet, and the attitude of the Indian Communist Party. A resolution was passed expressing the meeting's satisfaction over the safety of the Dalai Lama. The resolution also said the meeting shared the "anxiety and anguish" of the people of Tibet and it hoped China "will recognize even at this late hour the strength and justice of the demands of the Tibetan people.."
