Background: Mrs. Dwight D. Eisenhower, wife of America's President - affectionately known as "Mamie" - celebrated her 63rd birthday quietly, Nov. 14, at her cottage by the Augusta National Golf Club, Georgia.
Except for a brief appearance to pose for photographers, she kept out of the public eye - while her golfing husband enjoyed a round on the course.
Smiling and talking animatedly, she talked to a reporter, while d President stood silently by her side. "Are you enjoying your birthday?" the newsman asked. "Oh, indeed - very much" she replied.
President Eisenhower meanwhile looked impatiently at the menacing dark cloud on the horizon. "Looks like it's going to rain", he murmured. Assured his wife: "Oh, it'll be all right." she was right - the President was able to enjoy his game in pleasant sunshine.
