  • Description

A book entitled "Selected Speeches of Kwame Nkrumah" -- the late ex-President of Ghana, has been released in Accra.

It is the first in a series of five volumes and was compiled and edited by Samuel Obeng, former press officer in Dr. Nkrumah's Publicity Secretariat.

At the launching of the book, Mr. Obeng described Dr. Nkrumah as "that great African and gallant fighter against colonialism". He said the former president of Ghana occupied a unique position in the hearts of African freedom fighters, even in death.

The launching was also addressed by Mr. Kojo Bosio, one time Minister for Foreign Affairs in Dr. Nkrumeh's government. He said that in response to demands in Ghana and other parts or the world, it was proposed ??? establish a Kwame Nkrumah Foundation in Accra. It was hoped the Foundation would be able to sponsor publishing, research and other practical projects which would honour Dr. Nkrumah and carry on the good works which he started.

Dr. Nkrumah died in a clinic in Bucharest, Rumania last April after six years exile in Guinea following his overthrow by a military coup in 1966.

SYNOPSIS: In Accra on Thursday, a crowd attended the launching of a book of speeches by former Ghanaian president Kwame Nkrumah.

The book, entitled "Selected Speeches of Kwame Nkrumah", was edited by Mr. Samuel Obeng, a press officer in Dr. Nkrumah's Publicity Secretariat.

It is the first of five volumes of speeches by Nkrumah, who died in exile last April, six years after being ousted by a military coup.

A former Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Nkrumah government, Mr. Kojo Bosio, told the gathering that a Kwame Nkrumah Foundation would be established in Accra. It was hoped the Foundation would be able to sponsor publishing, research and other practical projects which, like the new book, would honour Dr. Nkrumah and carry on the good works which he started.
