  • Description

Beja, a Tunisian town about 25 miles from the french naval base of Bizerte....a police convoy makes its way to the home of the Governor.

The Governor of Beja has heavy responsibilities. On the outskirts of the Town the F.L.N., the Algerian rebel organization, has a hospital for the treatment of wounded and sick rebels returning from forays over the border into Algeria.

Against this background and all it represents, the virtual French-Tunisian impasse continues. Britain and AMERICA have offered their services to try to facilitate a resumption of good relations between the two disputing countries.

President Bourguiba has asked the French to regroup the 15,000 members of her armed forces at present in Tunisia into more compact unites near the coast. But France has affirmed her refusal to do this until Bourguiba abandoned his blockade of French garrisons and restored complete freedom of movement of French forces in his country.
