  • Description

PRO-CASTRO TERRORISTS YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) PILED ON PRESSURE ON THE EVE. OF VENEZUELA'S GENERAL ELECTIONS, AND A RASH OF BOMB ATTACKS AND OTHER INCIDENTS WAS REPORTED FROM SEVERAL CENTRES.

BUT THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THEY WERE GOING TO CARRY OUT THEIR THREAT TO GUN DOWN ANYONE SEEN WALKING IN THE STREETS OF THE CAPITAL BEFORE MONDAY MORNING. THEIR AIM WAS TO INTIMIDATE CARACAS INTO AN ELECTION BOYCOTT.

TODAY NEARLY 3,500,000 VENEZUELANS GO TO THE POLLS TO ELECT A NEW PRESIDENT AND PARLIAMENT.

THE PRO-CASTRO MOVEMENT, CALLING ITSELF THE "ARMED FORCES OF NATIONAL LIBERATION", ON WEDNESDAY KIDNAPPED A U.S. ARMY COLONEL. LAT NIGHT IT ADVISED NEWS AGENCIES THAT HE WOULD BE FREED IN EXCHANGE FOR THE RELEASE OF POLITICAL PRISONERS HELD BY THE VENEZUELAN GOVERNMENT.

IT WAS THOUGHT THE TERRORISTS MIGHT HAVE IN MIND THE SIX PERSONS WHO ON FRIDAY HIJACKED A PLANE AND MADE THE P: FLY IT TO TRINIDAD. THE SIX WERE RETURNED TO CARACAS UNDER ARREST.

THE GOVERNMENT EARLIER ISSUED A CALL FOR THE OVERTHROW OF THE CASTRO GOVERNMENT, BLAMING ITS AGENTS FOR LANDING THE THREE TONS OF ARMS DISCOVERED ON THE COAST OF PARAGUANA PENINSULA.

FILMS SHOWS POLITICAL SIGNS IN CARACAS, THE HIJACKED PLANE AND THE CAPTURED ARMS.
