TRANSCRIPT: WILLIAMS: "Once again it's perfect weather and Burghley House makes a marvellous setting for the fifteenth house trials held here out near Stamford. Now there's a three feet four inch log into the water a couple of strides and out over another timber fence. And she's over....(indistinct) water there and Olivia, the brown mare's been going so well and she's been going so well in this contest, she's had a fall which is sixty penalties. Mark Phillips, needed a little encouragement but has got away and put everything he could on the way through. Barbara Hammond, one of the most experienced international riders on Anna's Ballad through the nose and she's backed it, had a really bad fall. Barbara Hammond there he's got his feet right into that one. Barbara Hammond looks as if she might have broken her collar bone, yes, it looks very significant putting on that scarf and he really got a ride with plenty impulsion and she's in trouble she's right into the ditch there it's a gruesome ditch anyway. Bringing him in nice and steady again pushing him (indistinct) he was very nearly in trouble (indistinct) is being a bit sticky but (indistinct) is riding him on. Here comes Richard, extremely pleased with him performance and the performance of his horse Tommy Buck.

Background: After the first day of the three day horse trials at Burghley on Thursday (11 september)k Aly Pattinson and her brown mare, Olivia, took the lead from a strong field of British horsemen and women.
At the end of the day Captain Mark Phillips, riding his horse Brazil at Burghley for the first time, was in eighth place with sixty four penalty points.
The new-look cross country course presented many of t he riders with a stiff test and several riders found themselves dismounted. In an unlucky fall while negotiating the maze Barbara Hammond came off, breaking her collar bone.
The famous trout hatchery also presented a few problems to several riders. The fen??? is now jumped from the opposite direction with the means of ingress and exit close together. For some competitors the first days' events dampened more than their spirits.
