  • Description

The United Nations Security Council on Thursday(24 August) again deferred a decision on whether Bangladesh should be admitted to the world body. The People's Republic of China had threatened to veto any move to seat Bangladesh in the General Assembly.

The adjournment was proposed by the Sudanese delegate, Mr Falah Ibrahim who suggested that a number of delegates needed more time to obtain instructions from their governments.

When the admission of Bangladesh came up for debate on Friday(25 Aug) The People Republic of China exercised the right of veto, for the first time since joining the United Nations ten months ago.
