    MALAYSIA AND THAILAND TODAY (SATURDAY), SIGNED THE FRONTIER DEFENCE AGREEMENT WOULD WILL EVENTUALLY WIPE OUT THE REMAINING COMMUNISTS LURKING IN THE BORDER.THE AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED AT THE MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR MALAYSIAN PARLIAMENT HOUSE IN KUALA LUMPUR.

    THE MALAYSIAN DELEGATION WAS LED BY THE MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS, DR.ISMAIL ABDUL RAHMAN AND IT INCLUDED THE ARMED FORCES CHIEF, LIEUTENANT-GENERAL TENGKU OSMAN BIN MOHAMED JEWA.THE THAIS WERE LED BY AIR CHIEF MARSHAL DAWEE CHULLASAPYA, CHAIRMAN OF THE THAI JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF.

    ALONG THE 370-MILE NECK OF THE MALAYAN PENINSULA WHICH BORDERS THAILAND, THERE ARE SOME 500 MEMBERS OF THE SO-CALLED "MALAYAN LIBERATION ARMY".THEY HAVE BEEN LURKING IN THE BORDER SINCE THE MALAYAN EMERGENCY ENDED IN 1960.AT ONE TIME THE ARMY HAD A TOTAL MEMBERSHIP OF 15,000.

    A JOINT MALAYSIA-THAILAND MILITARY BASE WILL BE SET UP SHORTLY AT SONGKHIA, A HOLIDAY RESORT ABOUT 400 MILES FROM BANGKOK.THE BASE IS AN IMPORTANT STEP IN THE OPERATIONS AGAINST THE REMAINING COMMUNISTS.

    FOOTNOTE: THAILAND HAS FAVOURED THE LIMITATION OF THE RIGHT OF PURSUIT BY FORCES OF EITHER COUNTRY INTO EACH OTHER'S TERRITORY TO FIVE MILES INSTEAD OF 25 MILES.
