  • Description

UGANDA GAVE SOME OF ITS SUNNY WARMTH TO WINTRY LONDON TODAY (FRIDAY) WHEN A FASHION SHOW WAS PUT ON IN THE UGANDA HIGH COMMISSION.

THE UNIQUE COLLECTION, DESIGNED BY PHILIPPE TODD OF KAMPALA, CONTAINED 60 OUTFITS RANGING FROM BEACH WEAR TO FORMAL EVENING WEAR. BRILLIANT COLOURS HEIGHTENED THE DESIGNS OF AFRICA AND THE ORIENT ON A VARIETY OF MATERIALS.

UGANDA'S HIGH COMMISSIONER, DR SOLOMON BAYO ASEA, AND HIS WIFE ATTENDED THE FASHION SHOW, AND ONE OF THE SPECIAL GUESTS WAS MRS J.N. KARANJA, THE WIFE OF THE KENYAN HIGH COMMISSIONER.

ALL THE GARMENTS ON SHOW HAD BEEN DESIGNED IN UGANDA, AND MADE UP IN KAMPALA WORKSHOPS, STAFFED ENTIRELY BY UGANDANS. IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THE CLOTHES HAD BEEN SEEN OUTSIDE AFRICA, BUT IT IS HOPED THAT THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE IN LONDON SHOPS BY MAY THIS YEAR.

THE HIGH COMMISSIONER ADDED ANOTHER ATTRACTION TO THE FASHION SHOW WHEN HE INTRODUCED THE PRESS AND BUYERS TO WARAGI -- UGANDA'S NATIONAL DRINK.
