  • Description

MILITANT ANTI-WAR DEMONSTRATORS, STAYING ON IN WASHINGTON AFTER THE WEEKEND RALLIES, YESTERDAY (MONDAY) STARTED A CAMPAIGN OF CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE. HOWLING MOURNFUL INCANTATIONS FOR THE WAR DEAD AND MIMING THE ATROCITIES OF WAR, THE DEMONSTRATORS CARRIED THEIR PROTEST INTO THE HALLS AND COMMITTEE ROOMS OF THE CAPITOL BUILDING.

THEY TRIED -- AND FAILED -- TO GET A HEARING AT A SESSION OF THE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE. THEY STAGED A SIT-IN AT THE OFFICE OF THE SENATE REPUBLICAN LEADER. AND THEY LOBBIED EVERY AVAILABLE SENATOR WITH APPEALS FOR AND END TO THE WAR. ONLY A HANDFUL OF DEMONSTRATORS WERE ARRESTED -- THOUGH HERE'S THE PROMISE OF MORE MILITANT DEMONSTRATIONS TO COME.

AN EXCELLENT NATIONAL BROADCASTING COMPANY COMMENTARY ACCOMPANIES THIS FILM, AND IS VIRTUALLY TRANSCRIBED ON OUR OWN COMMENTARY PAGE. THERE IS GOOD NATURAL SOUND THROUGHOUT, PLUS THE CONFRONTATION OF THE DEMONSTRATORS WITH SENATOR PHILIP HART:
