  • Description

With the track fast and the weather brisk and sunny, the Arctic Sled Dog club of USA recently sponsored a weekend of racing over a twenty mile course in New York.

A housewife and a schoolgirl were among the competitors - running more than riding behind the huskies over snow-covered roads.

Although the Alaskan, Siberian and Samoyed huskies are said to have na endurance to race non-stop for twenty miles, knowing officials specified that dogs unable to complete the course must finish the trip as hitchhikers on the sleds.

The event at Colden, New York, is a race against time - some teams using five dogs, some seven. The dog power of these sleds varied. As the end of the gruelling run, Sonny Moody got first place honours and one of his prizes was: kisses from canine companions.
