  • Description

The joint Indo-Rumanian commission met in New Delhi, India, on Monday (26 April) to discus the latest developments in trade between the two countries.

In the past, Rumania has given a tremendous amount of technical aid to India in its petroleum industry and in oil exploration. The volume of trade between the two has also increased greatly in recent years.

Late last year, they signed a new five-year agreement which covered all aspects of trade. The long-term arrangement covered iron ore, machine tools, mica, pig iron and jute goods for export to Rumania and oil drilling equipment, fertilisers, ships, chemicals and rugs, and machinery and equipment for imports to india.

Both countries have emphasised the importance of diversifying the trade pattern in order to ensure sustained growth of trade.

The Rumanian delegation is led by Mr. Niculai Agachi, Rumania's Minister for Metallurgy, while India's Minister for Oil, Mr. K.D. Malaviya, led the Indian representatives.

The Rumanians are in India until 30 April, and, as well as holding a series of meetings, they're expected to visit numerous industrial centres.
