    BEFORE THE CEREMONIAL OPENING THE PRIME MINISTER OF CEYLON, MR. DUDLEY SENANAYAKE, AND THE MINISTER FOR HEALTH MRS. VIMALA KANNANGARA, LIT THE TRADITIONAL OIL LAMP FOR THE CONFERENCE SUCCESS.

    THE CONFERENCE WHICH WILL LAST FOR EIGHT DAYS WILL REVIEW THE PROGRESS MADE BY THE MEMBER STATES IN RESPECT OF MALARIA ERADICATION AND DISCUSS FUTURE PROSPECTS OF ERADICATING THE DISEASE FROM ASIA.

    THE CONFERENCE WAS ALSO ADDRESSED BY CEYLON'S HEALTH MINISTER MRS. VIMALA KANNANGARA, AND DOCTOR G. SAMBASIVAN, DIRECTOR OF THE DIVISION OF MALARIA ERADICATION OF WHO IN GENEVA. DOCTOR SAMBASIVAN IN HIS SPEECH NOTED THAT 800 MILLION HAD BEEN FREED FROM THE RISK OF ENDEMIC MALARIA. HE SAID: "HOWEVER REMARKABLE THE FIGURES APPEAR IN THE FINAL ANALYSIS THAT REMAINED TO BE DONE IS WHAT REALLY COUNTED. THAT SHOULD BE OUR PRIMARY CONCERN."
