  • Description

A CONGESTED AREA OF SAIGON WAS THE SCENE OF A BOMB EXPLOSION ON WEDNESDAY (15 MARCH). THE BLAST KILLED ONE VIETNAMESE WOMAN AND INJURED 10 OTHER PEOPLE, INCLUDING TWO KOREAN SOLDIERS.

THE BOMB WAS LEFT AGAINST THE WALL OF A SMALL SHOP IN A BICYCLE BASKET JUST OPPOSITE A SOUTH KOREAN TROOPS BILLET AND MILITARY BUS STOP.

A LARGE FORCE OF AMERICAN AND KOREAN MILITARY POLICEMEN SEALED OFF THE AREA. REPORTERS, WHO WERE ALLOWED IN, MEASURED A HOLE IN THE PAVEMENT OF THE SHOP -- ONE-FOOT DEEP (30 CMS) AND TWO FEET (60 CMS) IN DIAMETER.

ACCORDING TO A KOREAN MILITARY SPOKESMAN, THE BLAST CAME FROM A HOME-MADE BOMB. HE ADDED: "I AM SURE THEY WERE AIMING FOR US. THIS BOMB WENT OFF ALMOST EXACTLY AT A TIME WHEN THERE WOULD BE A LOT OF MEN AT THE BUS STOP. WE WERE LUCKY NO MORE WERE HURT."
ONE OF THE INURED HAD HIS FOOT BLASTED OFF.

KOREAN POLICEMEN PATROLLED THE SCENE WARNING OFF CURIOUS WATCHERS WHILE LOCAL RESIDENTS SWEPT AWAY DEBRIS FROM THE SLIGHTLY DAMAGED BUILDING.
