Background: Visnews filmed Jan 13 the formal meeting in Madrid of Spanish Foreign Minister Fernando Maria Castiella and U.S. Ambassador John David Lodge for the signing of a new economic agreement. The agreement is the fifth of its kind, Spain will purchase 415,000 tons of American agricultural products under it.
Most of the aid - totalling over GBP34M - is in surplus products. Among them will be 100,000 bales of cotton, tobacco, barley and other food grains. The largest item is over GBP18M-worth of edible oils.
Including the latest agreement, U.S. aid to Spain has amounted to GBP393M, with military aid and base construction.
