Background: Maria del Carmen Martinez-Bordiu Franco, grand-daughter of Spain's General Franco, was recently elected junior "Fallera Mayor" of Valencia for the annual traditional festivities and was escorted through the streets by a retinue of colourfully dressed women after receiving the keys of the city. The election ceremony took place in the Teatro Principal, Valencia.

At the ceremony, children from various institutions and colleges made the traditional offerings of flowers and fruits. Senior "Fallera Mayor", Maria Isabel Colomer, was in attendance as Junior Mayor Maria sat on the throne and received her guests. Later she headed a procession through Valencia and the population acclaimed their young "Fallera."
