    President Amin of Uganda flew to the Egyptian Mediterranean resort of Mersa Matruh on Tuesday (20 June) to attend part of the meeting of the Fourth Session of the Federation of Arab Republics' Presidency Council.

    President Anwar Sadat of Egypt, President Hafez Al Assad of Syria and President Muammar Gaddafi of Syria are meeting behind closed doors at Mersa Matruh to consider recent developments in the Middle East.

    Reports from Mersa Matruh say it is clear the Arab leaders have made a detailed study of reports from Beirut and Damascus an Israel's latest raids against suspected guerrilla basses in Lebanon.

    President Amin's presence at the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the strengthening of Uganda' relations with the Federation. President Amin recently severed links with Israel--and accused it of carrying out sabotage in his country.

    President Amin's visit to the meeting at Mersa Matruh came during an official visit to Egypt which lasts until Saturday (24 June).

    SYNOPSIS: Portraits of the presidents of Egypt, Libya and Syria decorate the streets of the Egyptian Mediterranean resort town of Mersa Matruh. Senior advisers like Libya's Prime Minister Mr. Galod, are joining their presidents at the town for several days of intensive talks on latest developments in the Middle East. The talks began against the background of mounting concern in Arab countries about new raids into Lebanon by Israeli troops seeking to destroy guerrilla bases.

    Joining the three Arab leaders--Uganda's President Idi Amin. He is on an official visit to Egypt, and the summit meeting provided an opportunity for the three Arab leaders to discusses a strengthening of Uganda's relations with their Federation.

    Libya's President is Colonel Muammar Caddafi. He was welcomed to Mersa Matruh by Egypt's President Sadat.

    The talks among the three leaders of the Federation of Arab Republics are being held behind closes doors. As well as recent happenings in the Middle East, it's understood the three presidents have also discussed President Nixon's visit to Moscow--and its possible effect on the Middle East.

    During President Amin's visit to the summit conference, the Ugandan leader had detailed talks with the other leaders.

    His host, President Sadat conferred on General Amin Egypt's highest honour, The Collar of the Nile. President Amin has recently severed relations with Israel, and is seeking to improve relations with Arab countries.
