    "STRONTIUM SWEETS" WERE LABORATORY TESTED IN LONDON YESTERDAY (MONDAY) TO DISCOVER THEIR EFFICIENCY AS ANTIDOTES TO RADIOACTIVE FALLOUT, WHICH AFFECTS THE THYROID GLAND. THE RESULT - A GREAT SUCCESS. THE SWEETS CONTAINED POWDERED STRONTIUM-87 AND IODINE. DR. MICHAEL ASH, WHO MADE THE SWEETS, EXPLAINED HOW THE TESTS WOULD BE CONDUCTED.

    ALL THREE PEOPLE WERE THEN GIVEN THE SWEETS. DR. ASH DEMONSTRATED THE EFFECT OF THE RADIO IODINE ON THE GEIGER-COUNTER, AND CONTINUED
    THE SUBJECT DULY DRANK THE RADIO-ACTIVE DRINK. DR. ASH SAID
    DR. ASH GAVE A DRINK TO THE SECOND SUBJECT, SAYING
    DR. ASH ADDED: "NOW THAT COUNT IS SHOWING THE EFFECT OF THE RADIO IODINE ON THE SUBJECT. NOW MR. BROOKE, WILL YOU COME ALONG AND TAKE THE RADIO IODINE.

    "IF YOU WOULD SIT DOWN HERE. THANK YOU. NOW I'M GOING TO PUT THE GEIGER-COUNTER AGAINST HIS NECK AND MEASURE THE COUNT FROM HIS NECK". THE GEIGER-COUNTER REACTED SLIGHTLY.

    SAID THE 44-YEAR-OLD DOCTOR, INDICATING THAT THE TESTS WERE OVER.

    HE SUMMED UP:
    DR. ASH HAD EARLIER TIRED OUT THE "STRONTIUM SWEETS" ON HIS EIGHT CHILDREN - WITH SIMILAR RESULTS.
