    Israel's Prime Minister, Mrs. Golda Meir, addressed a National Press Club Luncheon in Washington on Thursday and said she hoped that statements by President Anwar Sadat on seeking peace in the Middle East would lead to definite peace talks.

    She told the newsmen that if President Sadat had come to the conclusion that he wanted a negotiated peace instead of war, she couldn't welcome it more.

    Mrs. Meir also stressed Israel's willingness to pull back from the Suez Canal in advance of a full peace treaty will Egypt. She said that in doing this, Israel was willing to take a security risk as a good start to an eventual peace treaty.

    The following is a text of Mrs. Meir's address to the National Press Club.

    While the Press Club meeting was in progress at the White House, a ??? of about 70 Arab sympathisers staged a banner protest across the street. Their banners condemned United States President Richard Nixon for supporting Israel. The demonstration was orderly and quiet, and nobody was arrested.

    SYNOPSIS: Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir arrived at the White House in Washington on Thursday for talks with United States President Richard Nixon and his adviser, Doctor Henry Kissinger.

    Her call on the President climaxed discussions on the Middle East set up by the Nixon administration. Later, Mrs. Meir addressed the National Press Club.

    While the meeting with the United States news media continued, a rowdier affair was going on in the street. About seventy Arab sympathisers staged a protest rally.

    They waved banners which condemned the Nixon administration for supporting Israel. The orderly demonstration ended with no police action, and without being seen by the President.
