INTRODUCTION: A spokesman for the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), Mr. El Kallak Ezzedine told newsmen?
SCU: representative of PLO, Mr. El Kallak Ezzedine, speaking in Paris.
TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 1: EZZEDINE: "I think that it is really dangerous, for the region and for the international community to see Mr. Menachem Begin as the responsible of the Israeli politics, because his ideas about the Arab territories, about the Palestinian problem are a menace to international peace and security. They are also a menace to the international economy, because if he thinks he's going to solve the problem of the Middle East as he solved the problem of the Palestinian village Deir Yassin, in 1948, it would be a catastrophe. We are going to take diplomatic and political initiative, as well we are going to reinforce the resistance of our people inside our homeland. What is dangerous is the expansionist position of Mr. Menachem Begin."
Sixty-three year-old Mr Begin is holding talks with acting Prime Minister Shimon Peres on Friday (20 May) in hopes of forming a coalition government with the Labour Party. Mr. Peres refused such a coalition on Thursday on the grounds that the party had 'very real differences' with the Likud. These differences he said were over the occupied Arab territories, and negotiations with the Arabs. Mr. Begin announced on Thursday (19 May) that he would continue Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank of the Jordan and told newsmen they should cease calling the area 'occupied territory' and say it was 'liberated land'. Mr. Begin has also promised there would be more Jewish settlements in occupied areas, but that Arabs on the West Bank would be offered Israeli citizenship and equal fights. During the final days of the British Mandate over Palestine, before the state of Israel was established in 1948, Mr. Begin led the Irgum Zvai Leumi, National Military Organisation. This was one of two guerrilla groups which refused to accept the command of the official Jewish Defence organisation. The Deir Yassin incident to which Mr. Ezzedine refers in his speech involved the massacre of more than 200 Arabs in 1948. The Arab High Committee stated that about 250 bodies had been found and between 100 and 200 villagers were missing.
