Background: After an official visit lasting one week, King Feisal of Saudi Arabia left the United Arab Republic on Saturday (26 June). The joint communique issued on Saturday indicated that he and President Sadat of Egypt had come some say towards bridging the political gulf between their two countries. They spent most of the time discussing the Middle East crisis and other major Arab issues. Among these were the controversial Arab summit and the future of the Persian Gulf after the British evacuation in six months time, but these did not figure in the communique. The visit was King Feisal's first since Anwar El Sadat came to power last September.
