SYNOPSIS: Eastern Arizona in the Southwest of the United States....dry as tinder following a prolonged drought. The Fort Apache Indian reservation caught fire on Friday, and firefighters had to contend with a strong wind fanning the fire.

And in New Mexico, also in the South West, another fire swept almost out of control. Fire swept through the Santa Fe national Forest on Thursday and on Friday it was still nut under control.

But this time the firefighters were helped by the weather. Moderate rain pelted the fire, but a fire officer said that the puddles had added to their problems.
