Background: A new Japanese Ambassador to Togo presented his credentials to President Etienne Eyadema on Monday (July 9th) -- continuing Lome's busy diplomatic relations with Far Eastern countries during recent months. Earlier this year, Togo announced it was setting up diplomatic relations with North Korea, received its first Ambassador from The Chinese People's Republic and at the same time broke off relations with Taiwan.

The new Japanese Ambassador Mr. Shigeru Inada, commented on the remarkable development of economic and social relations between Japan and Togo when he presented his credentials to President Eyadema. Mr. Inada has diplomatic experience in the Japanese missions in the United States, Canada and Switzerland.

SYNOPSIS: At the Presidential Palace in Lome, Japan's new Ambassador to togo arrived last week to officially start his duties. He's Mr. Shigeru Inada -- and prior to this appointment he has already served with the Japanese missions in the United States, Canada and Switzerland. He's a married man with four children.

Inside the Presidency, the new Ambassad presented his credentials to Togolese President Etienne Eyadema. In a formal speech, Mr. Inada commented on the remarkable development of economic and social relations between the two countries -- and hoped to see a further improvement in existing ties. The President replied that the Ambassador would have a chance to see the efforts of the Togolese people to improve their country's economy.
