AT A THREE-HOUR MEETING IN ROME TODAY (MONDAY) THE ITALIAN PRIME MINISTER, ALDO MORO, AGREED WITH BRITISH PRIME MINISTER HAROLD WILSON THAT BRITISH ENTRY INTO EUROPE WOULD STRENGTHEN THE ECONOMIES OF ALL MEMBER NATIONS OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY. MR. WILSON, ACCOMPANIED BY BRITISH FOREIGN SECRETARY, GEORGE BROWN, WAS GREETED ON HIS ARRIVAL THE PREVIOUS EVENING BY A DISPLAY OF PLACARDS SUPPORTING BRITISH ENTRY CARRIED BY STUDENTS OF ROME UNIVERSITY. THE STUDENTS CARRIED TORCHES AND EUROPEAN FLAGS.

DURING TODAY'S MEETING AT SIGNOR MORO'S RESIDENCE, "PALAZZO CHIGI", MR. WILSON EXPLAINED THE AIMS OF THE PROBING TALKS HE WILL BE HAVING IN ALL THE SIX EUROPEAN MARKET CAPITALS - ROME, PARIS, BRUSSELS, LUXEMBOURG, BONN AND THE HAGUE - DURING THE NEXT SIX WEEKS. HIS TRIP IS AIMED AT EVALUATING THE PROSPECTS OF BRITISH ENTRY.

THE ITALIAN MINISTERS SAID TODAY THEY WOULD STRONGLY SUPPORT ANY BRITISH ATTEMPT TO JOIN THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET, AND ITALIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AMINTORE FANFANI ASKED MR. WILSON A SET OF QUESTIONS AIMED AT CLARIFYING THE BRITISH STAND. HE STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF TRYING TO GET BRITAIN INTO THE MARKET AND EXPLAINED THE KIND OF PROBLEMS ITALY HAD FACED.

THE BRITISH PRIME MINISTER LISTED WHAT HE REGARDED AS MAJOR POINTS OF DIFFICULTY IN ANY ENTRY NEGOTIATIONS - THE COMMON MARKET'S JOINT AGRICULTURAL POLICY, COMMONWEALTH TRADE SAFEGUARDS, CAPITAL MOVEMENTS AND POLICIES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPECIAL REGIONS.

MR. WILSON SAID THAT BRITAIN WOULD BE PUTTING HER ECONOMY RIGHT WHETHER SHE JOINED THE COMMON MARKET OR NOT. BUT HE WAS EXPECTED TO EMPHASISE BRITAIN'S DETERMINATION TO JOIN IN HIS ADDRESS TO THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE IN STRASBOURG ON JANUARY 23.

AFTER HIS TRIP TO PARIS ON JANUARY 24 AND 25, MR. WILSON WILL VISIT BRUSSELS ON JANUARY 31, LUXEMBOURG ON FEBRUARY 2, BONN ON FEBRUARY 14 AND THE HAGUE ON FEBRUARY 26.
