The President of the Formula One Motor constructor's Association Mr. Bernie Ecclestone said in London on Wednesday (6 December) he was confident the 1979 Brazilian Grand Prix will take place as scheduled - on the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo on February 4. Debts had cropped up in November when the Brazilian television network O Globo withdrew its sponsorship.

Background: Motor racing...and. in Brazil, the formula One teams of Ferrari and Renault have been preparing for the 1979 Grand Prix season. Ferrari have a new front-line driver -- South African Jody Scheckter -- and Renault's top driver will again be Frenchman Jean-Pierre Jabouille.
SYNOPSIS: Practice sessions took place in the magnificent Rio Autodrome some fifteen kilometres (nine miles) south-west of Rio de Janeiro. Early this year, it was first used as a Formula One circuit for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Ferrari's latest top driven, Scheckter, replaces Argentine Carlos Reutemann, who has moved to Lotus.
A major hazard for motor racing drivers is the heat, track and cockpit temperatures rising to fifty degrees Centigrade (112 degrees F). Pit teams must know which tyres to use.
Scheckter's job was to test the wearing qualities of the tyres on his ferrari T-3. Regarded as one of the best drivers in Formula One racing - he is capable of becoming world champion.
The turbo-charged Renault of Jean-Pierre Jabouille will also be using Michelin tyres next year. Following their win in this year's Le Mans 24-hour race, Renault have switched their competition emphasis to Formula One racing. Theirs will be the only turbo-charged car competing next season -- a unique aspect which they are hoping will reap dividends.
It has taken much trial and error for Renault to come to terms with the problems faced in Formula One racing by a turbo-charged car with its distinctive roar.
With the immense resources of Ferrari behind him, scheckter faces his best-ever chance of winning the driver's title, while Jabouille looks forward to greater success then he had last season.
