    THE QUEEN AND THE DUKE HAS SPENT THE NIGHT ABOARD THE ROYAL YACHT "BRITANNIA", ANCHORED OFF-SHORE. BEFORE THE QUEEN BEGAN HER ROUND OF OFFICIAL ENGAGEMENTS SHE HAD LUNCH ON BOARD WITH MR LESTER PEARSON, THE CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER.

    THEN THE ROYAL PARTY CAME ASHORE TO BE GREETED BY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL AND MADAME VANIER AND PROVINCIAL LEADER. THERE WAS A TIGHT SECURITY CORDON AROUND THE WHARF. ARMED GUARDS WERE IN POSITION ON ROOFS OVERLOOKING THE AREA, AND PASSES FOR PRESSMEN AND INVITED GUESTS WERE CLOSELY SCRUTINISED.

    THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE GAVE THE ROYAL COUPLE A WARM WELCOME AS THEY GROVE THROUGH THE NARROW TREE-LINED STREETS OF THE TOWN.

    LATER THE QUEEN OFFICIALLY OPENED A MEMORIAL BUILDING TO THE FATHERS OF THE CANADIAN CONFEDERATION. A CROWD OF FIVE THOUSAND CHEERED WHEN, SPEAKING PARTLY IN ENGLISH AND PARTLY IN FRENCH, THE QUEEN STRESSED THE SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING THAT PREVAILED WHEN THE BI-CULTURAL NATION WAS BORN.
