    The Delta Oil Company (Nigeria) has been prospecting for oil at a point 90 miles (145 kms) north of Warri, in the country's Mid-Western State. The drilling operation covers an area of some 360 square miles (580 square kms) and began in December 1971. The drilling has already reached a depth of 3,827 feet (1,148 m) and the operation is continuing. It's been planned to cost 700,000 Nigerian pounds (GBP700,000 Sterling).

    As the operation continues, representatives from the II oil-exporting countries including Nigeria which make up the Organisation of Oil Exporting Countries (OPEC) have been meeting in Geneva over the question of Dollar devaluation. On Thursday (13 January), they broke off negotiations with representatives of the western oil companies.
