  • Description

Yesterday (Saturday) afternoon some three thousand Greek workers joined members of 'Die Falken', the West Berlin Socialist Youth Movement, in a protest march through the streets of West Berlin, directed against the new Greek Government.

The demonstrators bore banners in Greek and German, but apart from expressing their views in anti-government slogans, there were no scenes of violence.

The West German demonstrations echoed similar outburst around Europe. In Moscow on Friday nearly 1,000 Greek emigres and foreign students gathered outside the Greek Embassy demanding 'democracy'. Stones and ink bottles were thrown at the building. The Greek Embassy in Rome received similar treatment from about sixty egg-throwing demonstrators. Teachers and professors held a protest meeting in Skoplje, capital of the Yugoslavian Constituent Republic of Macedonia. And in England, after a Friday night demonstration outside the Greek Embassy in London, 42 people appeared in court charged with causing an affray and using threatening behaviour.
