"If peace in the Middle East is to be a lasting one, then it must respect ALL the legitimate features of ALL the peoples. This must be based above all on the recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people as the one most directly concerned to decide freely its fate." Mojov said.

"On our part, our position is simple and reasonable. We want the occupying forces to evacuate our national soil. No territorial exception is morally permissible or practically feasible. We continue to believe that the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian Arab must constitute an essential component of any just settlement. On the basis of this principle, a just and lasting peace CAN be established."

Israel was quick to reply to the charges. The Israeli ambassador, Yosef Tekoah, used his right of reply to say:

"After the invasion of Israel in 1948 by the Arab armies, we did negotiate, we did meet ... and we did sign agreements. And if those agreements would have been fulfilled by the Arab governments, the situation would have been different. The Middle East would have lived in an era of peace and cooperation and fraternity - hopefully."
