In the first day's events - marked by torrential rain and a thunderstorm - Kent-Smith, of England, won the 1500 metres in 3 min. 50.5 sec.
On the second day, E Piatowski, of Poland, beat the world record for the men's discus with a throw of 196 ft. 6 1/2 in.. The former record was 194 ft. 6 in., set by Fortune Gordien (United States) six years ago.
One of the 3000 metres races run on the second day was won by H. Grodotzki, of East Germany, in 7 min. 58.4 sec., Ibbotson, of England, coming third.
