  • Description

Between 30 and 100 people are believed to have lost their lives and some 135,000 are homeless after four days of flooding in Buenos Aires, capital of the Argentine. They're said to be the worst floods in memory.

Further flooding swept the south western suburbs today (Friday) as rescue teams worked to save hundreds of families stranded on rooftops. Refugees were crammed into camps set up in schools, military barracks, cinemas and race trucks. A mass vaccination campaign is underway.

The flooding followed the overflow of the Parana River which runs into the river Plate, near Buenos Aires. Reports that the River Plate was slowly rising caused further alarm today.
