  • Description

The Old Contemptibles of Vancouver, part of a proud group of old soldiers, fly their colors for the last time. The Vancouver group disbands because there aren't enough members left to hold meetings. About a dozen members parade to Vancouver's St. Paul's Church for the service at which the colors are laid away. The Old Contemptibles were members of the first British Expedition to France in nineteen-fourteen, and made the historic and strategic retreat from Mons. It was this withdrawal manoeuvre which turned the early tide of the war in favor of the Allies. The grouping colors are turned over, for safe-keeping, to the church rector, the Reverend P.R. Ellis.
