Willie Brandt, West Berlin mayor, was Mr. John Foster Dulles' last important visitor, Feb. 9, before his admission to Walter Reed Military Hospital, Washington. Brandt was with the US Secretary of State for about 30 minutes.
Afterwards the West Berlin mayor said he was grateful to Mr. Dulles for receiving him and they had friendly discussions on all aspects of the Berlin situation.
At a meeting with the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Brandt said he thought the East Germans had "sold" the Kremlin on the desirability of trying to change the status of West Berlin.
Foster Dulles's latest comment on the present entanglement with Russianis that the West will risk war rather than surrender West Berlin.
While in hospital Mr. Dulles will be available for consultation on the Berlin crisis. His duties have been taken over by Mr. Christian Herter, Under-Secretary of State.
