  • Description

Nine people - seven of them in one family - were killed in the foothills of the Italian Alps, Dec 18, when a landslide wrecked eleven houses in the village of Pramollo, 30 miles west of Turin.

Torrential rains started the movement of mud and rock which hit the villagers without warning. Rescue teams, at work all over the northwestern regions of Italy, appeared quickly on the scene to save what there was to be saved.

From all around Turin reports were coming in of extensive damage after three days of uninterrupted rain. Several rivers were in flood, roads had to be closed and there was a spate of accidents.
