  • Description

Kenya defeated Tanzania 3-2 in a spiteful East and Central African Challenge Cup soccer semi-final at the Woodlands Stadium in the Zambian capital Lusada on Saturday (8 November).

The winner will meet surprise finalist Malawi in the final at the Independence Stadium, Lusaka, on Sunday (9 November).

Tanzania's British coach, Bert Trautman, criticised the Kenyans for rough play and said the referee should be re-acquainted with the rules of the game.

Malawi reached the final with a shock 2-1 victory over tournament favourites Uganda, in Chingola, on Friday (7 November).

The host team, Zambia, was eliminated in the early rounds of the Championship.

Tanzania said it would protest against what it claimed was rough play by the Kenyans during the semi-final.

At one stage during the game, police had to enter the pitch to separate the two sides. Kenyan goalkeeper Muhameld Magogo was penalised for delaying the game, and Tanzania was given a free kick outside the penalty box.

Players kicked the ball out of play and, in the confusion that followed, players for both sides scuffled.

In the end, the Kenyan side proved physically superior to the Tanzanians.

The same day, the Zambian Times, reported that the Kenyans were "Kung Fu masters in their own right, and this perhaps earned them victory against Tanzania".
