    The Economic Committee of the Arab League met in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday (July 3) to discuss Arab relations with the European Economic Community.

    The meeting followed the continuing devaluation of sterling and the U.S. dollar in relation to other Western currencies, especially the West German mark.

    Egypt was represented at the meeting by Dr. Abdel Aziz Hegazi, who is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Treasury, Economy and Foreign Trade.

    SYNOPSIS: In Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday the Economic Committee of the Arab League held a meeting to discuss Arab relations with the European Economic Community.... the E.E.C. The meeting was prompted by the continuing devaluation of sterling and the U.S. dollar in relation to other Western currencies. Egypt was represented by Dr. Abdel Aziz Hegazi, who is a Deputy Prime Minister and also Minister of the Treasury, Economy and Foreign trade. The Arab states have a relatively large volume of annual trade with Europe, and currently fluctuations in the E.E.C. tend to affect its Middle East trading partners.

    Egypt, in particular, has a growing trade with Europe. Its trade with Britain, for example, is growing annually -- Britain is ranked sixth in Egypt's list of principal countries of import, and fifth in export.
