At the first official meeting between Brazilian Foreign Minister Mario Gibson Barboza and Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Hassan El Zayyat, on Monday (29 Jan.), the Egyptian Minister presented Mr. Gibson Barboza with the Order of the Republic First Class, one of Egypt's highest honours. In return the Brazilian Minister presented Dr. Zayyat with his country's Order of the Southern Cross.
While in Cairo Mr. Gibson Barboza will have a number of talks with Dr. Zayyat. The talks are expected to cover the Middle East situation, and the present Israeli occupation of Arab lands. Brazilian Foreign Minister sources have said that Brazil's position, with regard to relations between Egypt and Israel, is to favour the United Nations Resolution of November, 1967, which Brazil believed to be the best solution yet found. The sources also said Orazil had consistently abstained from voting on measures that would alter this resolution.
It is expected that cultural agreements will be reached, and at least an economic agreement in which, Petrobras, the Brazilian State Oil Monopoly company, will be granted an oil prospecting concession on the Egyptian coast.
Mr. Gibson Barboza will visit Nairobi and Tel Aviv during his three week trip.
