The commander of South Korean forces in South Vietnam, General Lee Sae Ho yesterday presented awards to members of the ROK (Republic of Korea) Tiger division who fought in the battle of An Khe Pass. The battle was fought late last month and resulted in the reopening of Highway 19 which was in communist hands. Captain Lee Moo Pyo received the Order of Merit. Only 26 years of age, he led a special commando team against communist troops who had infiltrated a hill overlooking the pass. According to the South Koreans this action was decisive in taking the pass from the communists. The North Vietnamese had control of An Khe Pass for two weeks In all, 242 awards were made to members of the ROK Tiger Division.
