    The European Economic Community has appealed to South Africa to accept without delay a United Nations force in Namibia (South West Africa) to lead the territory to independence. Speaking for the E.E.C., French Ambassador Jacques Leprette told the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday (29 May) of the community's rejection of any settlement based on South African-sponsored local elections, which took place last December. He said any further delay in sending U.N. troops to maintain order while internationally-supervised elections were arranged must increase doubts about South African intentions. Earlier, Paul Lusaka of Zambia introduced a resolution, on behalf of 65 other members, recommending that the Security Council impose mandatory economic sanctions against South Africa.
