    A CEASEFIRE IN THE MALAYSIAN DISPUTE. IT WAS ANNOUNCED BY PRESIDENT SUKARNO IN DJAKARTA TODAY (THURSDAY) AFTER TALKS WITH MR. ROBERT KENNEDY, THE U.S. ATTORNEY-GENERAL.

    IT IS TO TAKE EFFECT IMMEDIATELY, AND MEANS AN END TO HOSTILITIES BETWEEN BRITISH-LED TROOPS AND INDONESIAN-BACKED FORCES ALONG THE 1,000-MILE (1600-KM) BORNEO FRONTIER.

    MR. KENNEDY, BROTHER OF THE LATE PRESIDENT, ARRIVED WITH HIS WIFE IN DJAKARTA YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) ON THE FOURTH LEG OF HIS MALAYSIAN PEACE MISSION.

    AMONG THOSE WHO WELCOMED HIM WAS THE BRITISH AMBASSADOR, SIR ANDREW GILCHRIST. AFTER BEING GARLANDED BY LOCAL GIRLS, HE DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE PRESIDENTIAL PALACE FOR TALKS.

    PRESIDENT SUKARNO, WHO HAD EARLIER ANNOUNCED HIS INTENTION TO "CRUSH" THE MALAYSIAN FEDERATION BY A POLICY OF "CONFRONTATION", ALSO ANNOUNCED TOP-LEVEL PEACE TALKS.

    THEY WILL TAKE PLACE SHORTLY IN BANGKOK "WITHOUT PRIOR CONDITIONS" BETWEEN MALAYSIA AND THE FEDERATIONS'S TWO OPPONENTS, INDONESIA AND THE PHILIPPINES.

    TONIGHT, MR. KENNEDY WAS FLYING TO LONDON TO REPORT TO THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT.
