Background: West German State Secretary Egon Bahr had a five-hour discussion with his East German counterpart. Dr. Michel Kohl, on Monday (8 March) on the subject of improving relations between the two States. Later Herr Bahr told reporters it was unmistakable that East Germany was keen on contributing to a positive result. The meeting was one of several currently involving the two countries. In others the possibility of a "Big Four" accord on Berlin's status is being explored and also the opening of the Berlin Wall for crossings by West Berliners over the Easter Holiday. Herr Bahr and Dr. Kohl will meet again on March 17 in Bonn.
