    Kenya's Foreign Minister, Dr. Munyua Waiyaki, addressed the United Nations Habitat Conference on human environments during the second-day debate in Vancouver, Canada, on Tuesday (1 June).

    Dr. Waiyaki called on the conference to foster and encourage "even greater cooperation in the whole field of human settlements".

    He said the international community already realised that human settlement problems could be solved adequately only by adopting a comprehensive approach.

    The conference is the largest gathering ever staged by the Unites Nations. Its aim is to tackle basic human problems such as housing shortages, pollution and starvation.

    SYNOPSIS: The United Nations conference on the human environment which opened in Vancouver, Canada, on Monday, was addressed on Tuesday by Kenya's Foreign Minister Dr. Munyua Waiyaki. Dr. Waiyaki expressed his country's views on how human settlement problems could be solved.
