The first reigning Japanese Emperor to visit Europe, Emperor Hirohito flew into Copenhagen Airport on Monday evening to commence his historic tour. He was accompanied by Empress Nagako. and is scheduled to stay in Denmark for two days before flying on to Belgium.
Although the visit is unofficial.Denmark's King Frederick and Queen Ingrid travelled to the airport to meet the Emperor.
Emperor Hirohito's arrival followed deports that Danish police had set up rigorous security procedures amid fears of an attack on him by Japanese left wing extremists. It has been estimated the thirty specially trained young militants arrived in the city some weeks ago. Although police spokesmen denied any knowledge of the group, they admit that security precautions are now more extensive than were at first planned. Extra plain clothes security of will be covering his movements around the city.
The Emperor's party includes the Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr. Takeo Fukuda.
