  • Description

At Velbert in the Rhineland, December 12, some 500 West German members of the War Registers' International demonstrated with banners against the call-up of class 1922, the use of atomic weapons, and war in general.

Men in the procession - following a "bubble car" surmounted by a model rocket inscribed "Atomic Armament - Suicide" - carried placards, mostly variations on the theme of "Never Again War".

Leaflets distributed by demonstrators explained what a conscientious objector could do, within his rights as a German citizen, to resist military training under the conscription laws.

Public interest in the demonstration - third time successful, after two police bans - was moderate.
