  • Description

Palestinian commandos and Jordanians got together at a ceremony on Sunday (January 24th) to declare their unity. They sang and danced together at a refugee camp near Amman.

The ceremony followed an accord between the Jordanian Government and the central committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation after six days of clashes between the commandos and government troops.

During the clashes the commandos left the bases there they usually lived. After the accord they returned.

Under the agreement arms were gathered from the militia -- part time commandos -- and stored. Also as part of the agreement all military features were removed from Jordanian police stations.

The chief Arab military observer in Amman, Brigadier Ahmed Hilmi, has announced that Jordanian authorities last week released more than 1,300 commandos held prisoner.

Meanwhile, King Hussein yesterday had a two hour meeting with cabinet members to brief them on his recent trip to Cairo, London, Washington Paris and Bonn. An official statement said the meeting reviewed arab and international affairs.
