    The President of the Republic of Burundi, Colonel Jean-Baptiste Bagaza, was in Paris last week (28 September) where he met with French President Valery Giscard D'Estaing.

    SYNOPSIS: President Bagaza arrived at the Elysee Palace on his way home from the United States where he met with State Department authorities in Washington D.C. and attended the General Assembly at the United Nations. On the events in the Central African Republic President Giscard that no one could have defended the system under deposed Emperor Bokassa. He said the changes in the Republic were good for Africa and he welcomed them. President Bagaza said the Central African Republic case could not be compared with that of Uganda. He claimed the changes in the Central African Republic were internal while Uganda had required outside assistance. President Bogaza said Burundi was opposed to external pressure.

    During his one-day visit to Paris President Bagaza also said the problems of southern Africa were essentially problems of decolonization. He said Zimbabwe Rhodesia and Namibia must be decolonized.
