Background: Soccer..and AC Milan of Italy and Boca juniors of Argentina played a 1-1 draw on Sunday (20 May) at the River Plate stadium in Buenos Aires. It was the first match in a four-team round robin series.
SYNOPSIS: The Argentine side playing in the dark hooped shirts attacked from the start, forcing the Milan defence to concede a corner. From the kick the ball was headed down and the home side again came close to scoring.
Milan then surged into the attack and came close to scoring with the header.
The juniors launched another attack on the Italian goal.
But it was Milan who dominated the first half and scored first. After twenty-two minutes there was a goal-mouth scramble and the ball broke loose for Novellino to cross and Capello to head home the only goal of the first half.
Boca came back strongly after bringing on its substitutes in the second half, but Milan showed it was not relying solely on defence when it came close to extending its lead.
When the equaliser finally came, it was form a penalty. There was no doubt in the crowd's mind that defender Pernia was going to level with scores. He obliged with a well taken penalty.
After the equaliser Boca Juniors pressed forward in search of the winner. The Italians were on the defensive, but managed to limit the number of scoring chances, and the game ended with the scores level.
