    In the Khmer Republic, there was fighting between Government and enemy forces on 2 August, around Highway 3 12 miles (14 kilometres) south of Phnom Penh. During the engagement, soldiers of the 1st Division, under the command of General Ith-Suong, captured a large quantity of weapons, including mortars and machine guns.

    The Government troops are believed to have killed at least thirty enemy soldiers in fierce hand-to-hand fighting.

    The captured arms were afterwards shown to reporters and photographers, who were also invited to see the bodies of the enemy dead. As they were crossing a paddy field on their way to the graves, they came under fire from enemy artillery, and were forced to take cover.

    SYNOPSIS: In the Khmer Republic General Ith-Suong inspects weapons captured by Government troops during fighting South of Phnom Penh, along Highway Three.

    The weapons included a large number of mortar shells and several machine guns. It's believed at least thirty enemy troops were killed in the clash with soldiers of the First Division.

    General Suong - on the left - was happy too show General Wo Hang Sang the haul captured by his troops.

    As journalists were being taken to see the bodies of the enemy dead, they came under enemy artillery fire and had to take cover.
