  • Description

PROTESTS AGAINST THE LACK OF SCHOOLS FOR AFRICANS IN SOUTHERN RHODESIA - YESTERDAY (MONDAY) THEY ERUPTED INTO A DEMONSTRATION AT HARARI TOWNSHIP NEAR SALISBURY.

THOUGH PLANS HAVE BEEN LAID FOR A COMMUNITY SCHOOL FOR THE TOWNSHIP, A LOCAL ASSOCIATION OF PARENTS CLAIM THE PLANNERS ARE FAR FROM LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS.

TO SPUR THE AUTHORITIES INTO ACTION, THE ASSOCIATION CALLED OUT ITS SCHOOL-LESS SONS TO DEMONSTRATE AND TO PREVENT ANY INCIDENTS, THE LAW CALLED OUT ITS FORCES OF ORDER.

AFTER A CHASE, THE POLICE MANAGED TO ROUND UP THE LEADERS AND WARN THEM NOT TO INFRINGE THE PUBLIC PEACE. BUT LATER STONE-THROWING DEVELOPED AND THE POLICE HAD TO BREAK UP THE DEMONSTRATION.
